This paper hopes to clarify two areas of technology that are often an area of confusion. They are firstly, the array of differing layer 2 transmission technologies like SDH/SONET, Ethernet, E1/T1 and what they mean - and secondly, why we use IP to transport our video over them at layer 3 not to mention what all of this layer business is all about!
