Milestone XProtect Corporate 2.0

It is with great pleasure that Milestone Systems has announced the release of Milestone XProtect Corporate 2.0

The powerful IP video management system XProtect Corporate is designed for large-scale mission-critical enterprise applications, supporting unlimited cameras, servers and users. The central management and intuitive access clients make even very large installations easy to use and manage. Based on an open platform, XProtect Corporate video-enables your business, and allows you to integrate with 3rd party systems and video content analysis.

What’s New Compared with XProtect Corporate Version 1.5?

XProtect Corporate 2.0 is the successor to XProtect Corporate 1.5 and is loaded with powerful new features designed for the higher-end market:

XProtect Corporate Management/Recording/Failover Servers 2.0

Two-Way Audio – The XProtect Corporate Recording Servers support full two-way audio with transmission of microphone input from Smart Client computers to remote speakers attached to IP devices. In addition the IP video management system offers two-way recording1), and relaying of incoming audio from remote devices equipped with microphones to Smart Client computers with speakers. Each speaker and microphone is assigned to a device that by default is the same as the device they are connected to. The speaker and microphone can be assigned to other devices as well.

Failover Support – An XProtect Corporate Failover Server can be on standby for a single recording server or a group of recording servers and will take over if one of these fails. Recordings are synchronized back to the original recording server once it is back online. Multiple failover servers can serve a group of recording servers, and failover activity can be monitored by initiating rules from failover events. The Failover Server is not licensed and can be rolled out on an unlimited number of computers per Management Server.

Multicast Support – In situations where many XProtect Smart Clients want to view the same live camera, multicasting is the answer that can save many system resources. Where unicast sends an individual stream to each Smart Client, Multicast sends one stream to all Smart Clients. The infrastructure must support IGMP to reach remote networks. Multicast is especially useful for virtual Matrix where multiple Smart Clients often require the same live view.

Multistream Support – Live view and playback do not necessarily require the same settings to achieve the best result. Depending on camera capabilities, Multistream support can establish two independent streams from a camera to the XProtect Corporate Recording Server with different resolutions, encodings and frame rates. For live viewing, MPEG4 at a high frame rate is often preferred, whereas playback is primarily used for investigation, where images in high resolution MJPEG give the best evidence export result. The recordings in most cases are stored at a lower frame rate to preserve disk space.

SNMP Support – This is a standard protocol for monitoring and controlling network devices, for managing their configuration and for collecting statistics. The XProtect System acts as an SNMP agent which can generate an SNMP-trap as the result of rule activation, in addition to the existing rule actions. A third party SNMP management console will receive this alarm-triggering event where operators can configure their system for further action. The implementation uses Microsoft Windows SNMP Service for triggering SNMP-traps.

NAT Firewall Support – To access the IP video management system from outside a Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall, the administrator has the option of enabling port forwarding which allows clients from outside the firewall to connect to Recording Servers without using VPN. Each XProtect Corporate Recording Server/Failover Server will be mapped to a specific port and this port is forwarded through the firewall to the server’s internal IP address.

IPv6 Support1) – For a long time IPv4 32 bit addresses like 192.168.1.1 have been the de facto IP addressing method for TCP/IP enabled networks. Due to IPv4 address shortage on the Internet and governmental regulations, IPv6 using 128 bit addresses are required as the default IP addressing method. XProtect Corporate 2.0 Management Server, Management Client, Recording Server, Failover Server and Smart Client are designed to support both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing. IPv6 support is not enabled in XPCO 2.0a but will be included in a coming service release.

Recording Server Licensing – The XProtect Corporate Recording Server is no longer licensed per computer as a result of the straightforward XProtect licensing strategy. The recording server can now be installed on an unlimited number of computers per Management Server.

Download Manager and Management Server portal1) – A new, localized, auto-generated web portal for download and installation of Smart Clients, Smart Client plug-ins, Smart Client Language Packs, Management Client, Recording Server/Failover Server, Device Packs, and start of Remote Clients in a web browser. The Download Manager configures client availability and other download options for the web portal. The Download Manager and Management Server portal are not included in XPCO 2.0a but will be available in a coming service release.

Camera Pre-alarm Images – Some cameras are able to store a short sequence of images that can be transmitted to the Recording Server/Failover Server.

Customizable E-mail Settings – Allow customization and use of system variables in the e-mail Subject and Message text fields in Notification profiles. This makes it easier to format the e-mail content to match the exact purpose and to send e-mail to SMS messages or mobile phone text messages via third party services.

User-defined Events – Custom Events have been renamed to User-defined Events. They are still used for triggering rules from external entities, as well as from the Smart Clients.

Authorization on User-defined Events – Option to select/clear User-defined events in roles for which the property “Status API” is enabled.

New hardware configurable events – Rules can be triggered by new device events for audio failing, audio passing, audio rising, images received, tampering, temperature and video lost for selected devices. See Device Pack release notes for more information.

MxPEG Support – The video compression algorithm MxPEG, that is unique to Mobotix, is now supported by the IP video management system. The MxPEG encoding is able to maintain high image quality for megapixel cameras while decreasing bandwidth consumption dramatically.

H.264 Support1) – This standard introduces a more efficient compression of video. Without quality loss, H.264 is capable of transmitting at much lower bit rates than previous standards like MPEG-2, H.263, or MPEG-4 Part 2. H.264 was developed as a joint venture by ITU (H.26x) and ISO (MPEG) and is also referred to as H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC). The outcome of using H.264 is a significant reduction in bandwidth and disk space usage. H.264 support is not available in XPCO 2.0a but will be included in a coming service release.

MPEG4 ASP Support1) – This video compression standard is called MPEG-4 Part 2, Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) and is an extension to the currently supported MPEG-4 (Part 2), Simple Profile (SP). The MPEG4 ASP standard enables a number of technical features designed to reduce the bandwidth slightly compared to MPEG4 SP. MPEG4 ASP support is not available in XPCO 2.0a but will be included in a coming service release.

XProtect Smart Client 3.6a

Two-Way Audio1) – The Smart Client can play live audio from a camera’s microphone and playback recorded incoming audio, as well as export audio together with video in native database format as well as in AVI format. The operator has a “press to talk” option which will send the microphone input from the operator to one IP device-enabled speaker, or to all of them. Each camera view item will use the default assigned microphone and speaker. The operator can select other audio devices or even let the same speaker follow the operator when choosing other views. Playback and export of recorded outgoing audio is not available in XPCO 2.0a but will be included in a coming service release.

Multicast Support – The Smart Client supports multicast streams if enabled, which will lower the network traffic when many clients are requesting the same live view camera. Otherwise clients will receive individual unicast streams. If the network becomes unreliable, the stream will automatically switch to unicast to ensure that the operator receives video.

Controllable Carousel – In addition to the existing carousel functionality, the operator can select the default display time or enter a custom display time for each camera. From inside the camera view the operator has the option of manually switching to the next or previous camera in the carousel camera list, as well as pausing at the current camera. When switching from one camera to the next, the transition phase is now completely smooth without any delay.

Dynamic actions – The operator is able to assign outputs, PTZ presets and views as actions to joystick buttons and as keyboard shortcuts. The actions are grouped to optimize overview.

Hide HTML page toolbar – In HTML page view items the toolbar can be hidden. The option is configurable on the Setup tab.

AVI export with audio – The assigned audio source is automatically included in the AVI export from the Smart Client.

Digital Zoom as default – The operator is able to use digital zoom where the zooming is performed in the image only. This has now become the default for fixed cameras.

Camera mode information – The current camera state is displayed in the title bar of the live view item window. Compared to the previous version, these texts have been replaced with a green “Live”, a red “REC” for ongoing recording, and a yellow “Stopped”.

Image quality limitation – When maximizing live view or playback video, it will switch to full quality unless “Keep when maximized” is enabled.

Online Help – To get instant help regarding a topic, the Smart Client has been equipped with a context-sensitive help system that covers the full Smart Client functionality.

Localization1) – The Smart Client is in XProtect Corporate version 2.0a delivered with English installation and help system, and an option to switch the graphical user interface (GUI) into Danish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. In a coming service release the Smart Client installation, graphical user interface and help system (in addition to English) be available as separate, fully localized applications in Arabic, Chinese (simplified), Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian and Spanish.

XProtect Remote Client 3.5c included

Live View and Playback – The Remote Client is now included in XProtect Corporate 2.0a. The web based Remote Client offers live view with up to 16 cameras including PTZ control with joystick and event and output activation. The Playback function gives the user concurrent playback of up to 9 recorded videos with date, alert sequence or time searching.

View Support – The Remote Client window supports shared and private server-based views with a layout of up to 4x4. Any of these views can contain a combination of cameras, images and HTML page view items.

Microsoft Active Directory Support – The Remote Client supports logon using the NTLM challenge handshake with Microsoft Domain Controllers and the local Windows user account database on the Management Server.
