ScanSource, Inc., a leading international value-added distributor of specialty technology products, has been named one of Fortune Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies. This year, Fortune combined its former America’s Most Admired Company survey with its World’s Most Admired Company survey, covering 64 industries: 25 international industries and 39 primarily US-market industries. ScanSource is one of only two South Carolina companies named to the list.
According to Fortune Magazine, the new Most Admired list is “the definitive report card on corporate reputations.” The survey starts with approximately 1,400 companies from the Fortune 1000, non-U.S. companies in Fortune's Global 500 database with revenues of $10 billion or more, and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S. The companies are then sorted by industry and the 15 largest for each international industry are selected, as are the ten largest for each U.S. industry. To create the 64 industry lists, Hay Group, Fortune’s survey partner, asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. This year only the best are listed: a company's score must rank in the top half of its industry survey.
